From the humble beginnings of a used bread truck and DIY ethos, Blackbeard Espresso started as an idea in 2013.

From 2014-2017, Blackbeard Espresso was primarily a mobile operation, brewing around the streets and event circuit of Louisville in almost any weather, just hoping to build the brand any way possible. Day by day, week by week, month by month, the events were growing, and the business was starting to look like it might just work. Still, the dream of establishing a brick and mortar coffee shop was alive and waiting to be realized.
In April 2018, Blackbeard Espresso’s permanent location became a reality with the signing of a lease for their first physical location at 718 W Main St, right in the heart of Museum Row in Louisville, KY. Nestled among local attractions like Michter’s Distillery, Old Bardstown Bourbon Co, Frazier History Museum, Kentucky Science Center, Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory, Muhammad Ali Center, 21c Hotel and Art Gallery, and more, the shop is perfectly positioned to serve those exploring some of the nation's most impressive 19th-century architecture.
Serving time in February 2014. In those early days, it wasn’t uncommon to find this truck around the city on COLD days! “There were times when it was 30 degrees inside the truck while running a propane heater!”
